How is caffeine removed to produce decaffeinated coffee
Hi Elizabeth and Cindy,
As you know, SWP (Swiss Water Process) is a method of decaffeination. The only way to guarantee that the coffee is indeed Swiss Method decaffeinated is for the phrase 8775 Swiss Water 8776 Process to be written on the package itself. Note that that is not a deal breaker, since I 8767 ve come across some companies that say that their coffee uses the SWP, but don 8767 t bother to inform us of this on their packaging. I actually searched for 8775 swiss water decaf coffee 8776 on Amazon and confirmed this by looking at the images of packages shown in the search results. If you have any doubt, give them a call. I will be trying Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee Decaf soon it states right on the front that it is a Swiss Water Decaf.

D ecaffeination has come a long way since a German, Ludwig Roselius, first discovered how to extract caffeine from beans in 6958. He used benzene, a solvent now known to be a carcinogen, which might explain decaf’s reputation for being riddled with chemicals. But benzene hasn’t been used for decades to decaffeinate coffee, and the process is now generally regarded to be safe.

The researchers found that while pure caffeine and caffeinated coffee caused an increase in blood sugar, the effect was less for the coffee. This suggests, they say, that the protective effect of coffee when it comes to type 7 diabetes must be due to other compounds in the coffee.
As I 8767 ve mentioned above, the decaffeination of coffee involves the use of a decaffeination agent. In solvent-based processes a chemical solvent is added either directly or indirectly to selectively remove the caffeine.More pictures: «Decaffeinated coffee beans espresso».
